WHAT TO MAKE OF IT?
(1/2)

Close your eyes. Imagine the most beautiful thing you can imagine. I won’t prescribe: is it a person, is it a politic, is it a job, maybe even a building. Detail it out in your mind. Get as specific as possible, de-abstract everything. Open your eyes. It's not here. Now, are you happy you felt it, or sad it’s not real?

If you want, let’s stay in that space. Keep that image in your head. You didn’t know how badly you wanted it and now you can’t imagine not having it. The image is so vivid, but you start to falter eventually, you realize how unlikely it is. You weigh the knowledge that it’s possible with the awareness that it’s … unlikely. You try to articulate how it meets reality but now that your eyes are open you see holes. You can keep working through it, but now you have the image and the real and they don’t meet quite so perfectly. And now when you close your eyes, the outline of the real holds.

A staged reading performance about liberatory delusion. Staged and performed at Sydhavns Art Space in Denmark.
